Holiday Pay

Holiday pay, auto-computed by Labor Code.

What is holiday pay in the Philippines?

Per Labor Code Article 94, every covered employee is entitled to 100% of their regular wage on regular holidays even if not worked, plus 100% premium if worked. Special non-working holidays earn 30% premium if worked.

Regular holidays: 100% pay even if not worked + 100% premium if worked. Special holidays: 30% premium if worked. WORKSPHR auto-applies, even when you forget the holiday calendar.

Holiday pay disputes are common

DOLE money claims for unpaid holiday premium are frequent, especially for retail, BPO, and F&B sectors that operate on holidays. Proclamation-based holidays add complexity that manual systems miss.

How it works.

Step
1

Holiday calendar pre-loaded

WORKSPHR comes with the current PH holiday calendar (12 regular + special non-working). Annual Proclamations auto-update. Local holidays added per region.

Step
2

Run payroll normally

When a cycle includes a holiday, WORKSPHR auto-applies the correct premium based on whether the employee worked or not. Stacking with OT + night-diff handled automatically.

Step
3

Generate compliance reports

DOLE-format holiday-pay reports auto-generated. Per-employee earnings breakdown. Year-end summary for compliance audits.

  • What's the difference between regular and special holidays?
Regular holidays (12 per year, New Year, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day, Independence Day, etc.) earn 100% pay even if not worked. Special non-working holidays (e.g. Chinese New Year, EDSA Revolution) follow no-work-no-pay; if worked, 30% premium.
  • How is holiday pay computed?
    Regular holiday: 100% × daily wage even if not worked. If worked: 100% wage + 100% premium = 200%. Special non-working: 0% if not worked. If worked: 100% wage + 30% premium = 130%.
  • Does holiday pay stack with overtime?
    Yes. Regular holiday + OT = 200% × 130% = 260%. Regular holiday + rest day OT = 200% × 130% × 130% = 338%. WORKSPHR auto-stacks correctly.
  • What about Eid'l Fitr and Eid'l Adha?
Both are regular holidays under RA 9849. WORKSPHR's holiday calendar auto-handles movable Islamic holidays based on lunar calendar. Pre-set per Malacañang Proclamation.
  • Are local holidays supported?
Yes. Per-employee work region (NCR, Cebu, Davao, Region III, etc.) determines applicable local holidays. Multi-branch companies get correct holiday pay per branch.
  • What if a holiday falls on a Sunday?
For most companies, Sunday is a rest day. Holiday on rest day = 200% × 130% = 260% if worked. If not worked: 100% (regular holiday) regardless of rest day status.
  • How does WORKSPHR update the holiday calendar?
When Malacañang issues the annual Proclamation (typically October-December), WORKSPHR updates within 7 days per our compliance SLA. Mid-year added holidays handled the same way.
  • Are religious holidays included?
Major religious holidays (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas, New Year) are regular holidays. Local religious feasts (e.g. Sinulog in Cebu) are local holidays. All pre-set in WORKSPHR.
